Insteon I/O Devices
This device allows for seeing insteon inputs or being able to trigger and output.
Input Device
Input Devices can include a motion sensor, a keypad linc, I/O devices and others. Basically, these devices send a group command to which other Insteon devices listen to and adjust their state. With this new device type within the Cortexa, the Cortexa can now see these group commands and turn on or off a different subsystem or log activity.
To add one of these devices to your current Cortexa, manual linking is required to make the input device a controller of the PLM. For single devices, this might mean putting the Input device in linking mode by holding the set button for three seconds (the LED should flash) and then holding the PLM button for 3 seconds (flash on PLM and then a stopping of the LED flash on the input controller). For devices that have multiple inputs or that require more intricate linking, please follow the instructions of the actual device to set up a link. The key is to have the PLM be a responder to the device.
On the Cortexa, create an Insteon I/O Device with the following settings:- Lighting Device: Yes
- Show this device: Yes
- Address: Insteon Address of input device
- Feature Number: Varies by Device
- I/O Type: Input
- Motion Sensor (1: Motion, 2: Dusk, 3: Low Battery)
- Keypad Linc (1:On, 2: OFF, 3:Scene A, 4:Scene B, 5:Scene C, 6: Scene D)
- I/O device (might vary by manufacturer) – 1: Input 1, 2: Input 2, 3: Input 3 …
Output Device
The Output device uses the same device type (Insteon I/O) with the I/O Type of input. Similar information is needed to control the output device.
The output devices are part of the Sensor and Actuator Device category. (0x07) Other systems that behave like outputs (like irrigation control – 0x04) are not yet supported.
Manual linking to control an output is not required. The Cortexa will send a direct message to the device to get it to turn on.
On the Cortexa, create an Insteon I/O Device with the following settings:- Lighting Device: Yes
- Show this device: Yes
- Address: Insteon Address of output device
- Feature Number: Varies by Device
- I/O Type: Output
- Input Output Device (0-FF for theoretical outputs 1 – 255)
- EZIO Device (0: Output 1, 1: Output 2, 3: Output 3…. 7: Output 8)
The type of output should be setup through the software or controls associated with the output device or through Insteon software. Ability to setup the type of output (Latching or momentary) is not available currently through the Cortexa.
Additional note on Input/Output Devices
Input devices will not have user controls (controllable ON/OFF buttons) while the output devices will have that functionality.
