Dynamic DNS (DDNS) with the Cortexa 7202
This document is specific to the Cortexa 7202 and previous models. New Cortexa hardware (2009) cannot use this method to update Dynamic DNS (DDNS) accounts. For new Cortexa hardware, DDNS accounts can be updated by some network routers or by other computers on the home network through update clients.
The Cortexa 7202 supports several versions of dynamic DNS. The version explained here is DynDNS. This walk through assumes you have already created a DynDNS acount and host name.
If a DynDNS account needs to be created, please see DynDNS Account Setup.
- Open the Cortexa's setup page.
- Select the Dynamic DNS link from the toolbar on the left. It's near the bottom.
- Check the enable box at the top.
- Make sure "DynDNS (static)" is selected as the service type. Note: All 3 DynDNS entries [DynDNS, DynDNS (static), and DynDNS (custom)] have been tested and worked from our test machine here in AO. We still recommend DynDNS (static) as this has been used the most and has always been successful.
- Enter the host name you created.
- Leave the MX record field blank.
- Leave the wildcard check box unchecked.
- Enter your DynDNS user name and password.
- Scroll down to the bottom and hit save.

Assuming your Cortexa was already externally accessible, it will now be able to be accessed via the host name that you created for it.
